Have you heard? A visionary performing arts center is coming to central Indiana.

The Center for the Performing Arts

The Center for the Performing Arts is a three-venue, world-class performing arts center located in Carmel, Indiana. The Center will boast a state-of-the-art, acoustically perfect 1,600-seat concert hall, dubbed The Palladium, a 500-seat proscenium theater, and a 200-seat studio theater.

The Center for the Performing Arts will be home to a number of local performing arts organizations, including Civic Theatre, which will be the principal resident theatre company of the Center, and the Carmel Symphony Orchestra. Other future residents include Carmel's Actors Theatre of Indiana, Carmel Repertory Theatre, Central Indiana Dance Ensemble, and the Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre.

The Center for the Performing Arts will also play host to a diverse lineup of local, national and international arts programming, including a Great American Song Book Series, jazz, dance, classical, chamber, choral and country concerts, plus appearances by world famous symphonies like the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, singers and musicians, a variety of plays and musicals, intimate cabaret performances, one night stands by America's favorite comedians and a host of other entertainment options that will enhance the quality of life in Central Indiana and throughout the Midwest.

The Palladium

The Palladium will also serve as an education center and museum for the Michael Feinstein Foundation, housing the rare memorabilia and manuscripts that comprise The Great American Songbook Collection, and it will host an annual international Great American Songbook Festival.

The Great American Songbook

The Great American Songbook refers to that uniquely American composition of music, lyrics and history, created by great 20th century artists such as George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, Rodgers and Hart and many others. It includes the interrelated music of Broadway theatre, musical theatre, Hollywood musicals and Tin Pan Alley.

Steven B. Libman / Executive Director

Steven B. Libman's most recent venture was a three-year term as Managing Director of the Tony award-winning La Jolla Playhouse, in La Jolla, California, during which he helped the Playhouse achieve significant growth and record fundraising. Steven will be responsible for creating the strategic direction of the Center, hiring the staff, recruiting the board, programming the four venues, and creating a collaborative atmosphere among all constituents.

Michael Feinstein / Artistic Director

Michael Feinstein, the multi-platinum selling, five-time Grammy-nominated entertainer dubbed "The Ambassador of the Great American Songbook," is considered one of the premier interpreters of American Popular Song. More than a mere performer, he is nationally recognized for his commitment to the American Popular Song, both celebrating its art and preserving its legacy for the next generation. In addition to serving as Artistic Director, Mr. Feinstein will perform frequently at the Center for the Performing Arts and assist with programming.
